Morganfield's

As we explored deeper into The Star Vista, rarely, during a lunch visit, we found the catchy promotion board of the Morganfield's rather good and cost-saving. Offering a fresh approach to the old American diner concept, Morganfield's serves a wide array of American-style fare including steaks, pork and lamb chops. 

Top Value Set Lunch from $9.90++ (Mon - Fri)

There wasn't any lunch time crowd judging by the fact that there are way too many options to eat at The Star Vista and so we didn't have to queue.

I ordered the 1/4 Honey Stung Chicken that comes with either the Salad or the Soup of the day and bottomless soft drinks (with a number of variety to choose from). Service was good and efficient and shortly salad was served, accompanied by the main course.

The main course wasn't that oily afterall and I do appreciate the chef who took time to evenly fried the chicken. The meat's juicy and not really that dry compared to the normal way it's fried. Although, you probably might want to switch to a more healthier dish, this could be one of the option to try out the next time you visit Morganfield's.

Owl Cafe

We decided to check out the first-ever cafe from Singapore's Famous Owl Coffee brand and we are a tad disappointed at the lack of service even before we stepped in. There were almost 7-8 staffs including those in the small kitchen making some coffee and amazingly, there wasn't any crowd. We have to wander around if this cafe is a self-service one to start with.

The café will offer various blends of authentic Straits Asian-inspired coffee with Straits Asian food and desserts. Hence we ordered, Iced Gula Melaka Kopi (Chef Recommendation), Crème brûlée and Soya Bean Curd. To our surprised, Soya Bean Curd was out of stock on a weekday at 4pm! What?

I do not know what i'm eating. Charred and smelled accompany by shallow dessert can only sum up my collective memories of such an awful dessert. Definitely not recommended and not going back anymore.

Iced Gula Melaka Kopi @ $5.00++ (Not recommended)

I suppose if i were to dine in at the cafe, i would probably be getting anything less than a take-away cup? Owl Cafe totally spoiled my afternoon. This Gula Melaka Kopi took probably more than 15mins to prepared and taste amazingly sweet. It's like drinking honey coffee. Definitely not recommended and not going back anymore.

Canton Paradise

I'm a big fan of the paradise group because they cater to different concepts ranging from Chinese cuisine to western cuisine to tea-time favorites as well as seafood lovers. Canton Paradise, opened their latest outlet @ The Star Vista offers Cantonese treat and other traditional favorites like wanton noodles, congee, rice dishes and roast meat.

The Menu

The queue wasn't that bad during the weekday but however the wait can be quite torturing on a busy weekend, especially Sunday. Services were indeed lacking at this outlet, many of the staffs avoided eye contact with customers who would like to place an order and only continuously topping up tea and acting busy. We managed to make our order after 15 minutes of waiting. 

The Plain Congee @ $1.80++ (Recommended)

I usually don't favor congee but this plain congee is really a surprised. Milky and with the crispy fried dough combination, this big bowl of Congee can be rather filling. 

Crisp-Fried Tofu with Salt and Pepper @ $5.80++

Healthy selection but not as tasty. There are no surprises with the use of Tofu. Ordinary, whereas the Carrot Cake (Below) is really delicious, thou oily and fattening. The Carrot cake are dish into small cube, evenly fried and mixed with shrimp. Small in portion and not expensive for a appetizer. 

Fried Carrot Cake in XO Sauce @ $6.80++ (Recommended)

Crispy BBQ Honey Pork Bun (3pcs) @ $4.80++

Good for sharing with friends. BBQ honey pork is well cooked and stuffed in the crispy bun, and taste just as good with it. However this is rather oily as well. 

Crisp-fried Fish Skin tossed with salt and pepper @ $6.80++ (Recommended)

Ordered this to accompany with the plain congee. Never go wrong with the crispy fried fish skin! Delicious and recommended.

Signature Canton Jumbo Prawn Wanton Noodle Soup @ $7.80

Group Executive Congee/Noodle Chef Yau Chi Kong is responsible for the making of both delicious Congee and Noodle for Canton Paradise. I would prefer the congee than the noodle soup probably because the soup's too plain and lacking in taste. Nothing really special about the noodle as well as the Jumbo Prawn (it isn't really big afterall)

Crispy Prawn and Mango Salad Fritters (3pcs) @ $5.20++ (Recommended)

So i think you probably had guessed i'm a deep fried person? Well nothing could really goes wrong with food being deep fried i guess unless it turn charred. Prawn and Mango salad fritters is the number one favorite dim-sum "must-order" here right? 

Steamed Scallop and Scrambled egg white dumpling @ $4.80++

Scallop was nowhere to see (probably too insignificant), Scrambled egg were tasteless, Dumpling skin's too thick. Not Recommended!

Steamed Cheong-Fun with Honey BBQ Pork Filling @ $4.50++

Last dish of the day and very generous with the filling for this popular dim sum "Must-order" dish. Sauces are not as salty and worth the try for if you do like to eat "Chee-Cheong-Fun".

The Star Vista

As you would have notice by now, there is a new hype soon-to-be happening down at the west side of Singapore. The Star Vista, officially opened for business on the 17th of September 2012.
