Hoshino Coffee, a popular Japanese café chain that has more than 40 cafés across Japan, opened late last year at the newly expanded Plaza Singapura. The queue is ever exaggerating, every time we pass by, there bound to have a long list of crowd waiting to be served.

Starbucks

I know, you probably been to Starbucks many a time. And the purpose of this post is really redundant? Well, hold your horses as I'm probably going to tell you more about Starbucks. This was one of the cases, my examination question that pop up in year 2012. They are just as successful as other food chain around the world. MacDonald's, Subway, etc etc.. I know you have some others in mind but that's okay. 

Starbucks is green in colour, the fact that Starbucks is portraying an image to the rest of the world that they are an eco-green, environment friendly concept cafe. That surely wins some votes worldwide.

Starbucks have always been small. And there is a reason behind it. You probably know now that Starbucks isn't just a cafe selling coffee and desserts and what have you. Anyone can mi-mick the same concept by selling food. Hence, the way the chairs and tables are fitted well in the small, concentrated area of Starbucks, basically brings out an extra dimensions. 

Indeed, Starbucks is creating a lifestyle. Go down to your favorite coffee-shop and order a coffee and try to spend an afternoon there with aunties and uncles. That's $1

Ok. Now picture yourself sitting down at a cosy, air-conditioned cafe, the aroma of the coffee beans being brewed right at the next instant and having a laptop/notebook in front of you. Surrounding you are those that are just as alike you and spend an afternoon there. Easy! That's $6

See the difference? 

The next time you have a cup of coffee at Starbucks, ponder yourself with this question. Are you here for the coffee or for a lifestyle? Only you, knows the answer.

d' Good Café

Chanced upon a newly set up coffee house at the premises of Holland Village. It's been awhile ever since we set foot to explore new cafe within the area; Lorong Mambong, Lorong Liput. 

The Entrance

You might not have notice them because they operate on the second level and the third level with very unique coffee experience. d'Good Cafe actually offers 4 different settings with two levels accommodating up to 95 people.

That fine day, the attic and the balcony were closed for a private event so we didn't have a chance to take some picture but we will definitely be back again. We chose the lawn because of the grassy patch and the swing in front of the window panel. It really feels very relax and comfy as time passed by.

We ordered the lava cake, the macarons and the blueberry white tea. I was supposed to be on a diet but you know, food blogger have no control over nice cafe settings and cheap and good dessert.

While the lava cake was good, the macarons was nothing to shout out for. We had better macarons in Paris and they definitely doesn't serve the best macarons in Singapore either. I have seen reviews of the breakfast here and we will be back to update you further. This restaurant doesn't charge GST and service charge at the moment.

Manicurious

Many Curious? It's Manicurious. Let me solve the mystery.

Manicurious is a newly setup nail salon, in conjunction with a cafe and as well as a retail space. This little hyper happening near beach road has their appointments for mani/pedicure almost fully booked during the weekends. We wouldn't able to do it on our first visit, so it's better to give them a call to make an appointment.

So they say picture speaks a thousand words. Windowsill Pies serves freshly-made banana almond brittle pie, s’mores pie, strawberry lemon tart and sum it up with a cup of Cappuccino or Mocha for your lovely weekend afternoon. 

Here's a sneak preview of the other side of the shop, the mini-nail salon. If you are bringing a companion along, coffee is on the house. How sweet right? They are having the mustache nail art for this month's promotion (November).

Owl Cafe

We decided to check out the first-ever cafe from Singapore's Famous Owl Coffee brand and we are a tad disappointed at the lack of service even before we stepped in. There were almost 7-8 staffs including those in the small kitchen making some coffee and amazingly, there wasn't any crowd. We have to wander around if this cafe is a self-service one to start with.

The café will offer various blends of authentic Straits Asian-inspired coffee with Straits Asian food and desserts. Hence we ordered, Iced Gula Melaka Kopi (Chef Recommendation), Crème brûlée and Soya Bean Curd. To our surprised, Soya Bean Curd was out of stock on a weekday at 4pm! What?

I do not know what i'm eating. Charred and smelled accompany by shallow dessert can only sum up my collective memories of such an awful dessert. Definitely not recommended and not going back anymore.

Iced Gula Melaka Kopi @ $5.00++ (Not recommended)

I suppose if i were to dine in at the cafe, i would probably be getting anything less than a take-away cup? Owl Cafe totally spoiled my afternoon. This Gula Melaka Kopi took probably more than 15mins to prepared and taste amazingly sweet. It's like drinking honey coffee. Definitely not recommended and not going back anymore.

The Fabulous Baker Boy

Recently, there's an abundant of newly opened cafe that allow coffee addicts to be spoiled for choice. The Fabulous Baker Boy @ The Foothills is our latest finding as the list continues. It has been raining for the past few weeks but that does not stop us from exploring new hideouts.

Banner that is not possible to miss out.

The Interior. 

There isn't any menu to begin with. The drinks menu is pinned above the refrigerator and the food menu just right at the cashier. (Due to sensitive concerns, we didn't take any pictures near cashier) Here's what we ordered. 

Flat White (Back) & Cuppacinno @ $4.80 each

Garlic Fries with Truffle Aioli @ $9.50

So as the name suggest, these people are serious in baking. The cakes ranging from Red Velvet, Carrot Cake to Salted Caramel ($7.50/Slice), Spiced Apple. Each slide at $7 is very tempting but however, we didn't order any that day. We were there purely for coffee tasting but we promised to come back with more reviews on the cakes the next time round.

Parco Caffe

Another well-hidden discovery, gem in the neighborhood. Remotely located at Raeburn Park, behind the Tanjong Pagar train station, Parco Caffe (brought to you by the very same team behind Spruce) is the place for quiet meals.

       

We decided to check out Parco Caffe after seeing some reviews from food bloggers and on a Saturday afternoon, there isn't really crowd to begin with. As you can see, not much of a crowd on a Saturday afternoon. Hard to sustain these-days with such turnout. So, here I'm going to do them a little favor by providing free of charge promotion

Service is efficient and fast. We ordered the Banana Nutella waffle and quite surprised at the combination between these two. However, the waffle isn't as nice compared to the one we had at Strangers' Reunion. Portobello, breakfast/brunch set portion is generously spread. Priced at $23++, you might want to try out other options available in the menu if you are not a salmon lover.

Afterall, a perfect place for a relaxed brunch for quiet conversation for the couples. If you happen to be around the corner, head down to Parco Caffe and you might just love the classy ambiance.
