Scoopz

Founded in 1996, Scoopz opened its first outlet at Parkway Parade and has been serving up the best of local ice cream flavours ever since. They have since opened the second outlet at Upper Thomson.

Scoopz Handmade Ice-Cream

We went cafe-hopping on a Good Friday, skipping the crowd in town and landed up at Upper Thomson. This is our first time to Scoopz and were attracted by the colours combination.

Promotion

The way the Polaroids being hung on the wall is what stands out in the cafe; a homey ambiance where teenagers gather for a good chill out session. It was not really crowded at the time when we entered.

Scoopz Lava Cake

Boardgames

The board games are available free for customers while they hang around the cafe just a little while more. There aren't alot of selection to choose from but what is there to complain when they provided it for free? There are some which they do charge you for these.

Giant 5: $7.50

Here comes our dessert. We ordered the Giant 5, 5 mini scoops of handmade ice-cream. The durian is one of the must-try flavor in the shop. We had peanut butter, strawberry shortcake, salted caramel and chocolate as well.

Give it a try if you must, as a dessert/ice-cream lover. Scoopz definitely give you an edge over the sticky chewy-ness of the ice cream they offered, and the portion is not really stingy. They are open from
12pm to 12am from Sun - Thur and  12pm to 2am  for Fri, Sat & Eve of PH.

Pancake King, Located at Bishan Street 11, Nu Sing Eating House specialize in local snacks like egg tarts, muffins, apple pie and pancakes. I'm sure many of us would be familiar with Mad Jack Cafe, and Pancake King is actually run by the Mad Jack Group. They currently have a total of 19 outlets all over in Singapore.

Assorted snacks for sale

Chocolate Walnut Cake: $2.20

Muffins (Chocolate, Blueberry & Walnut)

Famous Egg tart: $1.20 each

The buttery crust at the side of the egg tart and the silky-smooth texture of the filling makes it look different from the other egg tart that is available in the market. Unique characteristics might be one of the reason why they are so popular within Bishan Estate.

If you are nearby and are looking for some local snacks, why not give it a try?

Saybons

To all my vegetarian friends out there, Saybons @ Junction 8 offers affordable French food for everyone.

Saybons is inspired from the French phrase- C'est Bon which means 'it's good' in French. To make it a little easier and unique, we anglicized the phrase and added a 's' at the back. Most people should be able to pronounce this one we guess.

Back view of the Restaurant

The Interior

Saybons adopted the light blue colour for their decorations, wall color, and plastic cups to represent a lighter feeling when you enter the restaurant. It's a rather small one comfortable for less than 20 persons.

The menu are attached right outside the restaurant and one on top of the counter. They basically served from toast bread to soups to savoury crepes as well as dessert crepes. They also offered one of the French favourite, the escargots.

Garlic Herb Butter, Tomato Toast, Pumpkin Soup, Ice Lemon Tea: $7.80

I had the promotion of ordering the Pumpkin soup at $3.90 and additional add-on of two toast and a drink at $3.90. To be honest, I'm not a fan of the Pumpkin soup but it's really not that bad. It's not those watery cheapo soup you get at foodcourt, although the price is affordable.

The toast is neither too hard, crispy nor soft, crunchy and I would come back from their crepes in the near future. It was no doubt a healthy breakfast to start off the day. French-cuisine lovers, fall in now! They have two other outlets at
Plaza Singapura and Aljunied.

Au Chocolat

Located at level 1 at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Au Chocolat is a restaurant offering French cuisine and specialize in chocolate and candy. Beside the dining bistro, this confiserie is filled to every corner with goodies for young and old.

Chocolate and candy wonderland

Be treated to the colourful combinations of the exterior and you would be tempted to buy some and try. I swear the tarts and pastries in France is amazingly good. For a start, we were here for their brunch following reviews of the much-hype of Au Chocolat.

The Menu

Meet Danielle, an 8 year old French girl

Danielle and two other dog companions is the main characters of Au Chocolat. Together they embark on special adventures filled with joy and hoping that all it's customer would experience the same excitement during their visit here.

Quite interesting concept isn't it? This definitely set those children thinking somehow. Here comes our food...

Ultimate Benedict $22

Don't be deceived by the small portion of this Ultimate Benedict. It sure look small from the picture but it's adequate portion to share for two. The crispy bacon is really unique and the combination consist of eibeye steak, roasted chicken and scramble egg. (We actually request for scramble egg instead of 2 poached egg!) The hollandaise sauce completes the meal for two hungry people in the afternoon!

Pardon me I actually forgot the name of the mushroom crepe. It's heavenly good as well. We couldn't finish the portion because the portion of the mushroom is just way too much. The cream sauce match perfectly with the crepe. Writing this post makes me hungry already.

If you haven't been to Au Chocolat, head down and give it a try!

Daebak Korean BBQ Restaurant

It's been awhile and I probably have to try one of the few Korean BBQ restaurant in Singapore. Mind you, although the culture might be similar to that of the Japanese, they are actually very different. In terms of food, they like garlic, radish, cabbage and salad (health-conscious bunch of people isn't)

The hype of the much viral video of the Gangnam-style and the popular variety show "Running man", together with some of the popular boyband/girl group, K-pop has sure been dominating the shores of Singapore over the past few months.

Running Man

One of my favourite past time is to watch Running Man and they're just simply addictive. Anyhow, I've have decided to try out Daebak Korean BBQ Restaurant. They are known to have high standard level of service and drawn alot of comments from the customers (both negative & positive)

This is how an authentic way of eating in a Korean restaurant

This is how I eat!

The Spread

I love how they pour the egg at the side of the hotplate. It's really good and the good thing is, it's free of charge! The egg itself would be enough to sustain your hungry stomach while the meat are still cooking. They are very particular about how the meat is cook so occasionally  the server will come and disturb you while you are enjoying ur food! :/

On the other hand, their service is really good, too extreme i should say. Here's how it look like before the aftermath.

There are a number of Korean restaurant down the lane of Amoy Street. Take your pick and settle down for some authentic BBQ.

Windowsill Pies

A new couple finds it easy to express love. But people who have been in a relationship for long may find it difficult to articulate themselves. Valentine's Day is the perfect occasion to reignite the dying embers of love.

Today, I'm going to avoid the crowd at Orchard road. Heading over to a small cafe near Lavendar, I'm heading to Windowsill Pies for some picnic in the woods.

From the 14th to the 17th of February, Windowsill Pies will be serving a picnic for two with two slices of pie (a pot of tea to go with), a potato starter of your choice, a velvety corn and leek clam chowder and a main of your choice. All rounded off with a cute caraffe of juice or a couple glasses of wine! Priced at $65 for 2 people and an additional $10 for wine.

Velvety corn and leek clam chowder

The specially made clam chowder served with crispy samosa look-alike puff is the starter of this 3-course Valentine's Set. The portion is big enough for two to share. I'm not kidding, this is really some good clam chowder, one of the best I've had.

Latkes with French Onion Jalepeno Dip, Bacon waffles with Egg salad

The homemade recipe for the Jalepeno Dip is also one of my favourite because I personally do not like Jalepeno but I only know the dip is made from it after the meal. Amazing isn't? The Latkes with French Onion or Rösti (if you will), dip in the sauce is the perfect main course, although it look like some breakfast set that we are having.

Bacon waffles with egg salad is ok, thou i prefer the egg salad to be in bigger portion. Here comes the dessert, an icing on the cake. Full of robust flavours and exciting textures, their pies are crafted with honest ingredients and a close attention to detail. They normally had their cakes sold out pretty fast.

That's already saliva swallowing :)

Strawberry and Lemon Tart

Windowsill Pies is already famous for their cake. I've tried one of those at Manicurious. (3-in-1 Nail salon, retail and cafe)

Tea - Muscato Blanc

We had previously chose Muscato Blanc tea leaves to go with after the meal and strawberry, lemon tarts. Easily one of the simple yet perfect Valentine's date I had with my girlfriend and I'm pretty sure we would be back for more reviews.
